5 Series GT? Hmmm not sure yet!

Motoring madness

I really to think beamer got it absolutely spot on with the X6 – it is a fun looking half serious half Nike sneaker to throw about and have a bit of fun with. It was like wearing Armani jeans, a white paul smith shirt, blue Hugo Boss blazer with Nike shox! A sort of very sophisticated yet doesn’t take itself too serious!

So why am i telling you this – well because they have brought out a CT version of the 5 series which they have tried to make similarly to the X6 sort of part of the same family – well im not too sure it has worked – have a look for yourself . . .

I think it looks more like a cross between a station wagon and an old Camry – but thats just me

Know your facts the next time you smash it in your face!

Uncategorized

Here’s what we know about Jäger: It comes in a square green bottle, it tastes somewhat like licorice, and it has the ability to remove clothing from college girls.

But ask what the logo means, or what that German writing says around the label, and you’ll get met with blank stares. (Although, to be fair, ask anyone drinking Jäger anything and you get met with blank stares.)

“For centuries, St. Hubertus has been the patron saint of hunters. According to the legend, in his youth, Hubert was a wild and unrestrained hunter, without responsibility towards the creatures that he hunted and captivated by the drive to kill.

Even on the holy day of Sunday, he set off into the forest with his dog and rifle and cared little about the day of the Lord. Until one holy day, emerging from the dark woods, a large white deer carrying an illuminated cross between his antlers confronted him.

From the moment of his vision, he devoted himself to good works under the banner of the antlered stag. He died in 727 AD, and centuries later he was venerated as a patron saint.

It is from this story’s inspiration that the Jägermeister trademark derives. The name Jägermeister itself is German for “Master Hunter”, and incidentally it’s not made up. Even in Germany today, there is a position called Jägermeister, which is an employee of the district’s hunting authorities who is responsible for the region’s hunting regulations.”

So there you have it. The real story behind the Jäger logo is about a bloodthirsty hunter who, after seeing a holy stag, became a saint. (Which makes you wonder how much Jager he’d been drinking.)

And to win some bar bets of your own, memorize this…
The old German writing around the label translates as follows:
“It is the hunter’s honor that he protects and preserves his game, hunts sportsmanlike, honors the Creator in his creatures”

CAPRICE is very cool!

High Flying!

I must say based on the blog Guru – Seth from 2oceansvibe.com i decided to hit Caprice for a few cocktails as part of the Camps bay leg of the tour! I was a little weary of all the hype around it but to be fair – sitting on the sidewalk having a smoke and drinking large amounts of the red bull cocktails (sorry Seth not the 2oceans one) getting to look at this for the afternoon . . .

. . . really does make me envy you boys and girls who have found out the secret of living in CT!

If you are bored of lounging around the pool at the Atlantic Suites - i do suggest you take a slow drive down the mountain – hit CAPRICE . . .

. . . have a few smokes and cocktails – besides the view you are likely to bump into some form of local celeb and chances are you will have a very cool time (just dont let your Fiancce invite the street children for dinner) – not only do you get to enjoy the abundance of beauty you will have every local street merchant pass by with new offerings of creativity! While as a JHBer this may seem a little annoying – while you are bathing in the glory of CTs sun it seems more like a private art show setup just for you to peruse!

GO ON – ENJOY IT TILL THE SUN GOES DOWN (then i must suggest you hit Primi or Col caccio on the strip – few things in the world are as good as a delicious innebriated pizza)

Mickey and Minnie really were together!

Sometimes life is sad...

mickey-mouse-minnie.jpg

Sad news today as Wayne Allwine, the high-pitched voice of Mickey Mouse for the last 30 years, has reportedly died from diabetes complications. Appropriately, he is survived by Minnie Mouse. Seriously:

Vocal artist Wayne Allwine, 62, passed away of complications from diabetes on Monday, with his wife Russi Taylor – the voice of Minnie Mouse – at his bedside.Allwine joined Disney in 1966 as a mail room attendant and went on to work in the sound effects department.

In 1977, he became the third man to provide a voice for the company’s iconic cartoon character, after Walt Disney and Jimmy MacDonald.

His falsetto will live on at Disney theme parks around the world, as well as in films such as 1983′s Mickey’s Christmas Carol and 1988′s Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Roy E. Disney, the director emeritus for The Walt Disney Co., has paid tribute to Allwine, insisting he not only gave Mickey Mouse a voice but “a heart and soul as well.”

Harbour house is a place to go!

High Flying!

Situated in the picturesque old world charm of Kalk Bay’s working harbour, the Harbour House has a world-class position. Built on the breakwater, the restaurant has exquisite views overlooking False Bay and the mountains beyond on one side, and the colourful harbour on the other.

From late July, the Humpback and Southern Right whales come into the bay to calf and are regularly visible to diners. In Summer our sundeck allows diners to experience unforgettable outdoor seascapes. In Winter a log fire roars in the centre of the restaurant as huge waves crash on the rocks below. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and simple, a quality reflected in the cuisine.

All meals are simply prepared, with an emphasis on allowing the flavours of the fresh seafoods to speak for themselves. The restaurant buys most of its seafood straight off the fishing boats, as they unload at the fish quay and onto our doorstep.

Day or night this place is truly amazing!

View looking over the fishing boats in the harbour below!

Or sit on the deck - light up a smoke and relax on the couches until your bottle of Pinot Noir is done - then order another!

The good people of the kalk really do seem to have a great sense of humor!

But if its not comedy and rather breakfast you are into – here are two of the best – tomato, basil and olive omelet in this cool little side street cafe that makes its own fresh italian break and pastries!

OR if you feel like fresh fruit salad sitting on a lofted gravel platform overlooking the entire harbor and almost into infinity – then this is the spot you want!

BODEGA – COCOA HILL – FLAMMEKUCHENS!

Uncategorized

So if you dont know what the above three things are – firstly you have had a seriously misguided life so far! Secondly you are in for the most enjoyable day of food and drink coupled with aesthetic beauty you have ever had!

FIRST!

BODEGA – this is a restaurant on a farm called Dornier in Stellies that sits at the foot of the incredible mountain range and overlooks its own modern wave like cellar up onto the mountains! SEE BELOW!

SECOND!

COCOA HILL – this is the rose that the farms makes – it is absolutely delicious and is very cost effective if you are planning on drinking a large amount – the record currently stands at i think it was 7 bottles for four people over lunch (correct me if im wrong the people who were there!)

2008 | Cocoa Hill Rosé
Cabernet Franc, Merlot

In a time of seafaring and spice, pirates played in Table Bay…
Among them was Long Ben – as fierce as he was tall,
he looted and pillaged and scavenged from all.
Ben fast became known for being up to no good,
and so fled from the seas and gave up his loot.
He planted some vines, as was the way,
and peered out towards the ocean almost every day.
Long Ben would have gazed longingly at the vista of Table Bay
from where our vines grow today, on Cocoa Hill.

Tasting Notes
Of course it has to be the colour of this wine that initially attracts one, however upon further investigation you will be confronted by its fine concentration of fruit ranging from strawberries, pear and nuances of freshly cut grass with hints of vanilla. The palate combines all these flavours along with its full and rich mouthfeel, at the same time leaving one with a fresh aftertaste and lively acidity of this dry Rosé.

AND FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANT!

FLAMMEKUCHENS! These are very simply ultra thin and crispy pizzas (which incedentaly make it easy to eat a couple yourself) with the most scrumptous delicious combinations ontop (fig, gorgonzola and mushroom / bacon, caramelised onion & portabellini mushrooms / butternut, gorgonzola, rocket & balsamic reduction / prawns, chilli, pearl mozzarella, cherry tomatoes & pesto) and the best part is they change ALL THE TIME!!

See the damage below!
