Im a big one for technology as you may have realised – i like th efuture and the thought of robots making me a perfect vodka martini while i sit and watch my hologram tv on my floating cloud couch – but this im not sure about! Cooking maybe is the one thing you cannot take away – the scintilating taste of different flavours combining to form th eprefectly presented meal just doesnt seem like something you should replace – then again this is the matrix so its all fake anyway isnt it??
Much of the news we hear about food tilts toward the organic and local but French chef Pierre Gagnaire has taken things in a different direction creating what is called the world’s first synthetic dish. Gagnaire, a famed French chef with three Michelin stars worked on the recipe with chemist Hervé This, the founder of molecular gastronomy. The London Times reports that the recipe which contains ascorbic acid, glucose, maltitol and citric acid is called le note à note. It is essentially an appetizer made of jelly balls that taste of apples and lemon and are creamy on the inside and crackling on the outside.
The Times article includes a recipe that sounds more like a chemistry experiment. Most of us consume plenty of chemicals in our foods on a daily basis but still the idea of eating a meal that has no relationship to anything found in nature is still more of a novelty at this point.
Think of it as the evolution of the indoor stationary bike. An “unstationary” bike that can give you a full body workout, hitting your upper body and core, instead of just your quads and hamstrings.
The RealRyder ABF8 mimics the feeling of an actual outdoor ride (minus getting sideswiped by elderly drivers and chased by loose dogs), by letting you ride fluidly in three dimensions by tilting, turning and banking. Forcing a more complete, full-body workout, increasing core strength, burning more calories and even improving balance. (Which comes in handy on weekend benders.)
The seat and no-slip, sweat-resistant handlebars are fully adjustable for perfect fit and reduced fatigue, and the pedals even accommodate cycling cleats, for those of you who like to take the realism to another level.
Throw a video of a mountain trail on the big screen, and you’ll never have to leave the house in those ridiculous spandex bike shorts again.
For those of you in RSA you will know this is the last long weekend of the month (i know we have had a few) and thus also signals the start of the winter months – have some fun this weekend and start by laughing!!
. . . Porche for me has always been about beauty, speed and most of all two doors – i had this car coming for a while but still it doesnt sit well with me – i mean really if you want a four door car thats fast go buy an M5 or an E55 AMG!!!
This new Porsche just doesnt seem like a Porsche – im all for diversifying and going into new sectors of the market but i far prefer that you stick to your core vision and just enhance it – your call STMers?

Rolls Royce CEO Tom Purves announced that the company’s new model would be called Ghost. The new smaller Rolls which had been referred to previously as the RR4 was shown as a concept called the 200EX at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will debut in production form at the Frankfurt show this fall. The Ghost uses a stretched version of the platform from the new BMW 760Li including a modified version of the 6.0-liter twin turbocharged V12 engine.
Ghost is a traditional Rolls-Royce name that like Phantom was meant to convey the extremely smooth and quiet operation of these British luxury machines as they slip through the world. The Ghost will eventually spawn coupe and convertible variants as well some time after the four door sedan goes on sale late this year.
“EOS” concept phone Kyocera was showing off at CTIA is just too good to pass up. The handset folds up into what could roughly be described as a wallet shape, but folds out into two configurations: portrait QWERTY mode (pictured), and full-on widescreen OLED display . Samsung was showing similar screen-folding folding abilities, but a much less impressive handset, at CES. Things get even wilder, tough, with Kyocera envisioning shape memory keys that can morph flat when not in use, and a kinetic charging method based on piezoelectric generators and Mary Poppins.

The Cloud is a levitating sofa that floats thanks to magnets and, I suspect, a tiny wizard. Unfortunately, it’s only conceptual. Which, for those of you who don’t know what conceptual is, means really soft. You should buy one.
Cloud is a sofa concept designed for ultra comfort and relaxation. The soft floating upper part is supported by the magnetic force generated by the bottom base. No matter if you want to work and sit with comfort or simply a power nap to release the stress, you can always enjoy your time to relax on the floating cloud.
STM decided to hit the road for a little dullstroom relaxation with the crew! This always starts out as a relaxing journey and so we take in the sights of the journey – amazing how beautiful the sunsets get the further you head from the smog of JHB!
Dont get me wrong – i love this city but that’s why i appreciate the people who live here!
We decided in the spirit of the soundrtack on the trip that this would be from here out known as old school weekend – hence drinking Jenga (well drinking kiddies jenga is more like it) setting fire to whatever dead wood we could fit on the braai and spotting the old school around dullies – which to be fair isnt too hard – its ALL OLD SCHOOL!!
There was a little old school dress code – well not really but it does lend itself to it!
LEAF decided to play around with the old school signage!! WE tried to find MRS LEAF but to no avail!
And finally some fire loving!
After all the old school and a serious amount of braaing and laughing – oh and BEERPONG!! If you are looking to get out of town for a bit its a short two hour drive to hit dullies and a most special place it is! Dress warm – pack massive amounts of vino / vodka / beer / cider / gin etc – four blades!! And get the hell down there!

Could a former oil rig become a luxury hotel? Houston-based architecture firm, Morris Architects, has conceived a new purpose for old rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, turn them into hotels with beautiful views. The hotel which won a design competition earlier this year, would have a glass lobby floor, rooftop white sand beach and infinity pool and pre-fabricated guest-room modules which would close up during the Gulf’s hurricanes. The spaces are organized around a core of water that stabilizes the rig and could also serve as a venue for aquatic shows. The hotel would be powered with wind turbines and solar power. The design also shows a helipad and a docking area for boats.
