Looking for something to do in JHB?

Local is / is not lekker, The arts

As Friday is normally reserved for a steady pace of Vodka & Soda with a few Tequilas thrown in just because after a long week its important to get just a little fked up – i was rather grumpy on Friday to find out that i had to trek in peak traffic to Montecasino! Never the less i did manage to get a few drinks in in the sun before being dragged off kicking and screaming!

To my absolute surprise (as i am massively critical of anything South African – for no there reason than no one else is!) the show was simply sensational (i wont tell you the cast is not SA and the originals form the west end!)

The performance was outstanding and the venue is as always perfect – Montecasino allows for a great dinner first then a perfectly balanced show venue and finally either a club, bar restaurant or a little gamble after (oh yes and we did the last) – it is the perfect place to spend an evening!

PS if you want you can book a private balcony for six – much cooler than sitting with all the NORMAL people!

To go book @ COMPUTICKET just click below!

To go visit the MONTECASINO site just click this link!

The Banksy Job

The arts

I’m sure you’ve all heard of Banksy, the anonymous, yet very well known graffiti artist. Wiki tells us that his satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine irreverent dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cites throughout the world. Read some more if you’re interested. I’ll show you some pictures:

Incredible.

Thanks Lee

Music video of the moment.

The arts

It’s a track by The National, called Bloodbuzz Ohio off their latest album, High Violet. The guy is just too damn cool. If you think it’s boring, you’re wrong (hi Ang)…

Sometimes songs need to be posted twice!

The arts

When you hear a song that is brilliant it needs to be posted but sometimes songs transcend enjoyable and really are brilliant! This is truly one of the greatest remakes of a song and the fact the the original was done by U2 makes this remake even more superb by one of the great singer songwriters ever i believe!

Turn off the lights -- close your eyes -- turn it as loud as it goes and just listen!

Time for a twilight rant!

The arts

So as all of our females flock to the new twilight tweenie movie tonight i decided it was time for a bit of a rant – well maybe not so much of a rant as abusive pictures – but really now people look at this poor girls face – look how sad she is! She is far too sexy in that ‘she is really freaky (maybe a bit scary)’ kind of a way to be wasting her talents in kiddy movies like this!

Someone needs to step in and give her a pole or at least the script to softcore porn!

RiRi plays Jordi!

The arts

Now you think she is sexy -- her music videos are hot and even though I’m not the biggest Rihanna fan in the world I must say the trip up to Newcastle was worth every second (and not because drinks are cheap and allowed into the arena -- well maybe partly).

To start off there was a quick crowd warm up by Pixie Lott (who is not bad in both aesthetics and vocals).  See below . . .

. . . to be fair she really did not disappoint. The outfits were skimpy, the party was pumping and the drinks were carried on flying saucers with smoke and fumes leaking out of them. It was a stellar night in Newcastle . . . check it out!

She really was worth the trip and, although I didn’t get to take her back to our suite as my fiance had said I could if the opportunity arose, nevertheless  carnage was had by all!

To top it all off we realised that our suite has one of these . . . absolutely superb!

This is a very cool hotel chain -- if you are in the UK you should really go check them out -- Malmaisson!

A bare canvas

The arts

If this is one of the worst jobs to do, this must be one of the coolest – a body painting artist like John Vargas. Not to be mistaken with John Vargas who played a role in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (I swear I didn’t know that before trying to find out more about the guy).

Anyway, back to the topic, he does stuff like this:

Quite a nice addition to the football fever that’s going around.

What a combo!

The arts

One of my most vivid childhood music memories was of watching a an MTV unplugged session of Nirvana on VHS, over and over. Seeing this video on the weekend made me think of that. It’s a cover of a classic song done by one of the greatest musicians of our time (who just happened to be in Nirvana too).

Dave Grohl does Tiny Dancer.

On a side note: Why have the Foo Fighters not come to South Africa? I’m pretty sure they’d fill stadiums, and we’ve got some very cool ones to fill.

Thanks Nic

We will rock you . . . STM hits the west end!

The arts

When in London, take in a show! So Queen seemed the logical option but I must say I was a little unexcited. I thought this would be your classic sort of play with the whole queen ensemble performed by a Freddie lookalike, but much to my surprise the show started with a few record headlines -- The Beatles, Elvis and some others. When I heard ‘In 2000 Simon Cowell was sent from hell to destroy Rock n Roll’ I decided to sit up and take notice!

The show, set a few hundred years in the future, starts to make sense when you see that all musical instruments have been destroyed and free thinking is outlawed -- the only thing the youth can listen to is whatever the global organisation manufactures via a PC program. All of a sudden Justin Bieber’s baby baby baby oh, baby baby baby came to mind and I realised the world is KILLING ROCK!

The show really makes you realise just how brilliant these men and women were and are who create music with nothing other than their instruments! So do yourself a favour -- switch off the lights -- turn up the sound -- close your eyes and enjoy the brilliance of the epic QUEEN . . .

Then go check out this show because you have really not seen stage talent until you have seen the West End!

Soccer, art, charity combo

Sport, The arts

As we approach the World Cup it’s great to see people channeling some of the hype into helping others. A prime example of this is Got, got, got need!

‘Got, got, got, need!’ is a celebration of the colourful characters set to grace South Africa’s finest football stadia and also adorn the sticker collections of thousands of kids this summer.

Each canvas measuring approximately 16×12 is a hand painted enlargement of an original thumbnail sketch. These 32 ultra limited edition one-offs have been painstakingly masked, sprayed and painted over the course of two months and are being exhibited at The Offside Gallery in Islington to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

These are some examples:

And lastly, if Shrek were a ginger…

Iron Man tatt?

The arts

So we at STM . . . well maybe someone at STM has been bandying about the idea of an Iron Man tattoo – this could be attributed to the copious amounts of tequila consumed by us in general. This may have rotted our brain sufficiently to want a fictional comic book character permanently drawn onto one of our bodies . . . . however it may also have something to do with the numerous episodes of Miami Ink being watched on discovery - because those dudes are just too cool!

Whatever the reason, chances are sanity will prevail and unless we somehow manage to get a case of Paco Chicano mixed with a private jet to Miami – we will remain with none / one / two / multiple tattoos as is the current setup! But if all those glorious things above should combine wouldn’t this be awesome!?

It goes against all my beliefs . . . but is still funny!

We at STM LOVE Tony Stark -- in fact you may say for some of us he is the ultimate! But there are times when you can appreciate good humour!!

STMs going to Rihanna!

The arts

STM will be hitting the Rihanna tour in Newcastle in a few weeks – cannot wait to see and the few pics that have come out are looking mighty tasty!

No longer satisfied with simply wearing ridiculously revealing clothes, Rihanna has taken to masturbating on stage in front of her fans.

Great artists like Rihanna have an relentless need to express themselves. Of course her record label would never allow her to actually write any lyrics, compose music, or not have her voice heavily distorted, because, well, they want it to sound good. So tragically artists like Rihanna are forced to express themselves the only way they have left, through sex.

From Cher and Madonna to Rihanna and Lady Gaga, these great musical masters walk around with their tits and ass hanging out whenever they get the opportunity. Now Rihanna is raising the stakes by openly pleasuring herself during her show, and I say kudos for pushing the envelope.
