I know this beautiful girl whose brother plays in a band called ShortStraw. They’ve just released their first music video and while I’d say that for a first video it’s really good, that wouldn’t be entirely accurate:- for any video it’s damn good! Well done guys…
Here are some of their upcoming gigs:
9 September at The Woods with Columbus
11 September at Hotbox Studios in Pretoria
17 September at The Bohemian
23 September at Wolves for another acoustic show (Wolves on a Thursday night for an unplugged set is epic)
This is what you get when you take a bunch of dudes with an idea for some comedy, a local production company and a soundtrack by aKING.
“(Almost) Legends” tells the story of seven different South Africans and how they hope that the 2010 Soccer World Cup (and beyond) will change their lives forever. As they are followed around by a camera crew we are exposed to their interesting and strange ideas and, ultimately, their failures and character flaws. We get a comical & tongue-in-cheek glimpse into the lives of very “normal” South Africans.
We all know what a superb advert for the country the world cup was etc etc (its been said to death) but the question is what has it done for South African soccer? The short answer is right now nothing really – i mean yes its gotten alot more of us to watch and support and i guess itll take a long time for all the ‘grass roots’ initiatives that FIFA and the like have setup BUT what about here and now – what about the players??
Well here is one story of talent that will hopefully be handpicked by one of Englands biggest and best . . .
SuperSport United captain and Bafana Bafana star defender Bongani Khumalo is expected to join leading English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
Khumalo’s business manager Glyn Binkin confirmed on Tuesday that the 23-year-old central defender who shone for Bafana in the Word Cup, that a deal would be concluded with Spurs by end of business on Tuesday.
But the talented defender would not be moving to White Hart Lane by the end of the transfer window on Tuesday (August 31) as had been speculated.
“The deal is on going at present. The plan is for Khumalo to play as many matches this year for Bafana and get more caps and join Spurs in January,” Binkin said.
You may have seen how we reported on MTN making it onto Manchester Uniteds website as an official sponsor - well hot on the heels SPURS have just announced their new sponsor and low and behold another South African company is hitting big!
The two-year shirt sponsorship, effective from Season 2010/2011, will see the Investec brand feature on the Tottenham Hotspur shirts in all cup competition matches including European club competitions, FA Cup and League Cup. Investec will become the first brand to appear exclusively on the Club’s cup competition shirts.
As Friday is normally reserved for a steady pace of Vodka & Soda with a few Tequilas thrown in just because after a long week its important to get just a little fked up – i was rather grumpy on Friday to find out that i had to trek in peak traffic to Montecasino! Never the less i did manage to get a few drinks in in the sun before being dragged off kicking and screaming!
To my absolute surprise (as i am massively critical of anything South African – for no there reason than no one else is!) the show was simply sensational (i wont tell you the cast is not SA and the originals form the west end!)
The performance was outstanding and the venue is as always perfect – Montecasino allows for a great dinner first then a perfectly balanced show venue and finally either a club, bar restaurant or a little gamble after (oh yes and we did the last) – it is the perfect place to spend an evening!
PS if you want you can book a private balcony for six – much cooler than sitting with all the NORMAL people!

You may have seen our post on THE MORRISON ARMY previously – they are a superbly talented SA band and we need to get behind the locals! So here are a few of their upcoming shows;
Cell C have a new face, a new logo and most importantly – A NEW PRODUCT!
They have gone and brought us the future before any of the other infuriating service providers (i say this currently as my line continues to DROP WITH VODACOM!)
Cell C have sharpened up their logo, got South Africas new funny man Trever Noah to pose for the campaign and MOST IMPORTANTLY they are bringing us 4Gs! What is 4Gs you may ask – well the simple version is – its faster and better Internet than you have ever had! The complicated version is in the press release below!
. . . i have had to admit recently that the north is starting to get a bit drab!
I mean it used to be the shopping / partying / drinking etc etc capital of Gauteng (I woulds say SA but the Capetonians will go mad!) but now with all the money that has been pumped into the lonehills and bryanstons of this place – we have been left sadly behind – FAR BEHIND!
But finally the cash powers that be have decided to wake the hell up and drop some serious money to bring the people back (the pretty people that is)
WELCOME . . to the new SANDTON!
Johannesburg, South Africa – Africa’s premier shopping destination will soon receive a R1.77 billion ($226 million) face-lift from RTKL, the international architecture, planning, engineering and creative services firm. Opened in 1974 and renovated twice since, the 158,000-SM Sandton City Shopping Centre is a mixed-use facility comprising over 300 shops, an 11-screen cinema, restaurants, an office tower and hotel.
If you dont know who im talking about – then stop BEAT YOURSELF – and carry on reading! These dudes are outrageous – they have just updated their site so i suggest you go check it out!
All the news on local bands, their gigs and pics etc are on as well as some demos – some superb local stuff to rock out to as we head into weekend mode!
. . . so after a rather interesting debate last night we have decided to test the waters a little here! The argument circled around the fact that our beloved STM has too many male oriented posts (half naked women / fast cars etc etc)
I see the men nodding in approval – down boys!
SO i am going to post a few things that are completely sex-unbiased and we will see if there is any interaction – so if you are female and out there in STM land and want to see more unisex / female biased content – now is your time TO SCREAM!
If not tomorrow will be filled with the beauty that is the mans world!
Not much descends on Bloem of epic proportions but come this weekend they will experience the influx of German and British fans like never seen before (its already earned the nickname little Britain)
Never-the-less when some thing of such magnitude hits Bloem perhaps for the only time in its existence there is no mad scramble to see if there are enough hotels, buses, cars, roads, seats etc etc . . .
No! There is one thing that needs to be addressed – one thing that needs to be ensured above all else – that one thing my STM friends is BOOZE!
This is why WE LOVE BLOEM – the right priorities!
Bloemfontein – World Cup organisers moved on Thursday to ensure Bloemfontein bars were stocked with enough booze as the city braced for an invasion of thousands of thirsty England and Germany fans.
George Mohlakoana, chief executive of the Mangaung Local Organising Committee, said up to 25 000 English fans and up to 10 000 German supporters were expected in the city for Sunday’s match.
“Normally, in terms of our own provincial laws, Sunday is considered a day when alcohol should not be sold from wholesalers. However, you can get alcohol from restaurants and pubs.”
Mohlakoana said organisers had communicated with pubs and restaurants to make them aware of the fact that the two sets of supporters come from beer-drinking cultures and that they would need to stock adequate supplies.
It’s quite clear at the moment that we’re proud South Africans at STM. With that pride and patriotism comes the realisation that we’re not perfect and have many flaws. One of them being the terrible music that is loved by a relatively large number of people. I came across this prime example today and thought I’d share it (make sure the volume is turned down so no-one will overhear it and mistakenly think that it’s your style).
The new generations are changing the world. We use technology to gain information faster, we read magazines because books are too much of a commitment and we watch series because movies require hours that we just dont have! In the famous words of the infallible Henry David Thoreau 'We must suck the marrow out of life'. This site is going to help you do just that. This site is about the pieces of genius and interest that lay scattered amongst so much debris of everyday life - if only the world could do the same with everything. ENJOY!
