I wish school had looked like this…

Design delight!

If only more schools would realise that a pleasant work environment leads to better outputs. You could argue that it’s a factor of money, but there are many schools that probably have bottom lines that would put quite a few businesses to shame.

Enter La Marais Du Billet School. No surprises that it’s Swiss.

Beautiful!

Some interesting houses . . .

Design delight!

Modern Log cabin?

The design was based on the concept of the “folie”, where the wooden structure is broken into two parts to establish a radical spatial boundary while materializing an unexpected entry sequence.

GO SEE ALL THE PICS – VERY COOL?

Stone house?

Inspired by the Flintstones cartoons, this stunning house was constructed between two giant stones on the hillside of Fafe mountains in Portugal.

See all the pics of this one?

The ultimate garage

Design delight!

And by garage I’m not referring to a collection of cars. I mean the actual garage. The house isn’t bad either.

For a cool $35 million you can get the ultimate car collector’s crash pad in Montecito, California, a modernist masterpiece designed to house a world-class collection of 35 cars – that’s $1 million per car – in a stunning automotive art gallery. Walls and pillars lined in walnut give way to massive plate glass windows fronting on a sweeping terrace so that the car collection is integrated into life of the house. More…

Ad or art?

Design delight!

Does the fact that these sculptures are really just an exercise in branding mean that they aren’t art, or are artists nothing more than brands themselves?

Whatever your thoughts on the matter, these look really cool:

The Nike ball man that was displayed in the Carlton Mall during World Cup.

Coca Cola crate man.

BMW space balls.

Not sure what this one is for but I thought it was rad.

The Cool Hunter has more.

Two very cool speakers

Design delight!

The Wireless Streaming Music Centre, like other systems on the market, streams music, connects to your iPod and computer and daisy chains with other units should you want to expand the system. The difference is it also has a hard drive to potentially store music right in the unit and it looks damn good.

By roughly tracing the structure of everyone’s favorite surprise during winter, designer Sylvain Gerber created the Snowflake Speaker. He’s created something that visually contours the idea of clean sound – as pure as snow. There are no fancy covers or meshing. The speaker is stripped bare revealing all the intricate membranes highlighted by an eery glow.

Urin(mur)al

Design delight!

This picture has apparently been going around for some time with a message that it was designed by an all women interior design company for one of their clients. I was all ready with a comeback that at least we can pee standing up when I came across the truth about this particular pic.

It was actually designed by Perron Developments and can be found in the second floor men’s toilet of the Sofitel Hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Thanks Sean

New York under attack

Design delight!

By 8-bit pixels. This is an amazing video by Patric Jean from One More Production that not only looks cool, but brings back a lot of memories of old school video games.

In other 3D news

Design delight!

It was only a matter of time before “designer” 3D glasses were produced. Look3D is one of a handful of companies readying “designer” 3D glasses, with a wide variety of frames, colors and prescription styles available. Some are “RealD certified” and quite a few look quite wearable. The company isn’t exactly treading unexplored ground, but if you scoff at Ray Ban or Gucci prices, it’s an option.

I think I’d feel like more of a dork wearing these than the “normal” non-designer ones.

Thanks Wildings for the 3D content

The drunken keyhole

Design delight!

The keyhole isn’t actually drunk. Keyholes can’t get drunk. But this one is great for those who are.

Like if you’re going to the Solstice Festival and aren’t the designated driver (who gets in for free and gets coffee all day for no money!).

BMW looks to the skies

Design delight!

As you may know, BMW started out life as a manufacturer of aircraft engines which is why their badge resembles the propeller of a plane (you learn stuff on STM!). It’s quite cool to see that they’re once again getting high. They’ve teamed up with Embraer to give the Phenom 100 and 300 a typically minimalist BMW interior.

Very cool animation

Design delight!

A fellow Suck The Marrower (yeah, that’s a new word) sent us some of his animation work which is really great. I particularly like this piece which was done with Sunrise Productions for SA Rugby.

Nice one man. If you’d like to see more of his work or get in touch, check out his site.

Thinking out the box. Or in.

Design delight!

Mini hotel rooms are popping up all over the globe. This one really caught my eye as being a very cool design and a box that I wouldn’t mind spending some time in if faced with an awkward stop over on route somewhere far far away. Designed by The Arch Group of Russia, the Sleep Box is designed for airports and hostels (the one with the bunk bed) and has space for a bed, a flip table and sockets for your laptop or cell phone.

An expensive climax

Design delight!

18 carats of diamonds, white gold and a price tag of R400 000.

The expensive sex toy is made by Paris jeweler, Maison Victor that claims it to be the most expensive erotic toy in the world. The dildo is available in a variety of sizes and comes apart to release the exquisite diamond ring.

From here.
