I must say based on the blog Guru – Seth from 2oceansvibe.com i decided to hit Caprice for a few cocktails as part of the Camps bay leg of the tour! I was a little weary of all the hype around it but to be fair – sitting on the sidewalk having a smoke and drinking large amounts of the red bull cocktails (sorry Seth not the 2oceans one) getting to look at this for the afternoon . . .
. . . really does make me envy you boys and girls who have found out the secret of living in CT!
. . . have a few smokes and cocktails – besides the view you are likely to bump into some form of local celeb and chances are you will have a very cool time (just dont let your Fiancce invite the street children for dinner) – not only do you get to enjoy the abundance of beauty you will have every local street merchant pass by with new offerings of creativity! While as a JHBer this may seem a little annoying – while you are bathing in the glory of CTs sun it seems more like a private art show setup just for you to peruse!
GO ON – ENJOY IT TILL THE SUN GOES DOWN (then i must suggest you hit Primi or Col caccio on the strip – few things in the world are as good as a delicious innebriated pizza)
There are a number of beautiful spots to stay in CT – Camps bay really is one of the amazing ones! The majestic sweeping views down over the Camps bay strip and into what seems like an ocean of infinity!
If you do ge tthe chance to come past this way make sure to stop in and stay at the Atlantic Suites! The views are unbelievable – with breakfast overlooking the whole of Camps Bay
And just to give you a taste of what views this amazingly luxurious place holds in store – check out the below!
Situated in the picturesque old world charm of Kalk Bay’s working harbour, the Harbour House has a world-class position. Built on the breakwater, the restaurant has exquisite views overlooking False Bay and the mountains beyond on one side, and the colourful harbour on the other.
From late July, the Humpback and Southern Right whales come into the bay to calf and are regularly visible to diners. In Summer our sundeck allows diners to experience unforgettable outdoor seascapes. In Winter a log fire roars in the centre of the restaurant as huge waves crash on the rocks below. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and simple, a quality reflected in the cuisine.
All meals are simply prepared, with an emphasis on allowing the flavours of the fresh seafoods to speak for themselves. The restaurant buys most of its seafood straight off the fishing boats, as they unload at the fish quay and onto our doorstep.
The good people of the kalk really do seem to have a great sense of humor!
But if its not comedy and rather breakfast you are into – here are two of the best – tomato, basil and olive omelet in this cool little side street cafe that makes its own fresh italian break and pastries!
OR if you feel like fresh fruit salad sitting on a lofted gravel platform overlooking the entire harbor and almost into infinity – then this is the spot you want!
This is really one of those amazing little villages you only read about – you know the ones with the old antique stores – masses of tiny little fishing boats and brilliant little restaurants filled with colorful characters!
The one thing you never picture is superb modern accommodation – for some reason you always think the best in these little towns still is a little shabby – DEFINITELY NOT TRUE!
Majestic Kings is an awesome set of apartments – perfectly maintained – modern with absolutely everything you need including a very short walk to anything in Kalk baai!
Although it is one little street pretty much with a large amount of wine consumption demos surrounding – it really is a very cool little street in the middle of no where! It kind of gives oyu the feel as if you walking down a little road in one of the small towns in Burgundy – especially if you stay at the Franschoek Country house!
A very cool double story little room with bedroom and bathroom downstairs, lounge upstairs – with a very cool view over the vineyards! The only thing spoiling it was the rather annoyed cow than was tied to the fence!
But somehow after a bottle of Chardonnay it jusnt isnt time for dinner right away – more like time for a bottle of Tattinger Champaz and a few Oysters to get the night going a little – find a cool little modern hole in the wall in Franschoek isnt easy but when you do HIT IT HARD! If you find yourself in this part of the world – do yourself a favour and hit this little hole in the wall on the main road – superb combo of Oysters (cherry & oysters / tempura oysters / lemon lime oysters etc etc)
AND OF COURSE A LITTLE OYSTER AND CHAMPAZ APPETIZER BEFORE DINNER
I have failed to comment on Julius Malema and the youth league! But enough is enough – it seems like the youth league is run by the dumbest members of the ANC – truly this seems to be a collection of the most moronic minds of the youth of South Africa – if this is not a group of the dumbest people anyone has ever heard of then i am seriously concerned with the youth of our country!
THE MOST SCARY THING IS – FOR THOSE OF YOU OUTSIDE OF OUR BORDERS – THIS IS THE YOUTH LEAGUE OF OUR RULING PARTY!
The background to this interview is that the leader of this youth league said that the leader of the Democratic party – Helen Zille – was sleeping around to get ahead in politics – something as moronic as that. A local radio station got their spokes person onto the radion to try explain! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED!
Next destination is Webersburg! And after our initial ‘drive in and drive out’ we were approached – and when i say approached a man running towards the car wacing and smiling like a store owner with his first customers – we decided to go in and very happy to do so!
The venue itself is set in the most magnificent valley overlooking a dam with masses of wild birds and animals – well squirrels – but never the less the cape dutch style set up against the mountain looks like somewhere the woodstock wedding could take place!
It was time to hit the wedding tour! And i must say as much as they say as a groom all you need to do is show up on the day dressed well (which to be fair is about spot on with my view!) it really is much more fun to be involved in the venue tour!
First we hit the beautiful Vrede en Lust (for the papers its Fairness and passion – for the real folk its Freedon and Lust! – you can just imagine the Dutch S&M!) anyway without getting sidetracked it is most magnificent!
Roses and pebbles line your entrance!
And after a few bottles of the supern JESS rose my fiance as caught up in wedding fever as she was – still got rather pissed off with my new blackberry which needless to say bings every 4 seconds with some or other catastrophe happening back in the real world – and after the same amount of rose it is quite easy to say – I DONT CARE to BOTH OF THEM!
Its always fun to hit a bit of a road trip – this time of year in the cape especially but not when you get to go home to stay in this! A few wine farms and for those of you in the know MASSIVE AMOUNTS of FLAMMEKUCHENS and a good few bottles of cocoa hill rose at BODEGA!! but more of that a little later!
With a view from your side bedroom window like this!
